Desmond Lacton Bishop, is a veteran of the Corporate Travel Management Industry. Desmond was born in Sierra Leone (SL) but educated in both the UK and USA obtaining a Management degree at the William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ. He immediately embarked on a 22 year career with American Express Global Travel Management Services before running his own business between 2006-2010. During this time Desmond worked his way up to various positions within the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut offices, most interesting of which was with the Pequot Tribe Nation at the famous Foxwoods Casino. Prior to his departure from Corporate Travel, Desmond started a personal Travel and Concierge service in 2002, the first of its kind immediately after the civil strife in Sierra Leone. His company Afrikasgems Tour was a major player in promoting travel, tourism & hospitality to his home nation.
In June, 2007 Desmond’s company was chosen to assist in the Amistad Atlantic Freedom Tour which culminated in Freetown that December. In 2008, he chaired the Sierra Leone America Business Association (SLABA) a business advocacy group that hosted then newly appointed President of Sierra Leone at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel in Washington, DC in an effort to promote business development. He returned to Corporate Travel in 2011 as a Travel Consultant with Ovation Travel Services one of the largest companies serving the legal community. Desmond continues to advocate for Sierra Leone and its youth and has recently embarked on creating the VCM Bishop Foundation & Institute in honor of his late mother, which will prepare young people in the areas of Tourism, Hospitality & Events (THE) key professions in Sierra Leone’s developing economy. Desmond and his family live in Maryland, USA and continue to make frequent visits to SL.
